Functional Skills Onscreen exams are level 2 qualifications conducted on laptops at our centre in Sparkhill Birmingham.
Please note: Candidates will be required to observe social distancing and wear face masks.
Many colleges and universities will accept Functional Skills onscreen qualification as being equivalent to a GCSE.
Onscreen Functional Skills tests can be booked at any time throughout the year.
Results are usually emailed to candidates 10-14 working days after the test but can take up to 28 days.
Current Test available: Saturdays 11 am.
24 hours notice is required to book a Functional Skills exams.
Functional Skills Level 1 or Level 2 Mathematics £99.
Edexcel Functional Skills On Screen Examinations.
One exam (1 hour 45 mintues).
(Require 34 or 36 from 64 marks for a Pass from 16 Questions).
(4 non calculator questions + 12 calculator questions).
Functional Skills Mathematics, Level 1 & 2, aims to ensure that each individual is able to solve problems in real-life, functional contexts and develop skills in:
- Using numbers and the number system –whole numbers, fractions, decimals and percentages
- Using common measures, shapes and space
- Handling information and data
Functional Skills Mathematics qualifications are designed to give learners the skills to operate confidently, effectively and independently in education, work and everyday life. They have been created in response to employers’ perceptions that many learners are not achieving a sufficiently firm grounding in the basics

Functional Skills Level 1 or Level 2 English £180.
One reading exam – 75 minutes £80.
(Require 21 from 35 marks for a Pass)
One writing exam – 60 minutes £80.
(Require 21 from 36 marks for a Pass)
One speaking test – 60 minutes £20. Click for Sample
(Result: Pass or Fail)
Speaking tests are conducted online via Zoom.
The date of the speaking test will be confirmed when you attend for the reading and writing test.
The aims of these qualifications are to develop learner understanding and skills in:
Level 1
•Speaking, Listening and Communication – take full part in formal and informal discussions and exchanges that include unfamiliar subjects.
•Reading – read and understand a range of straightforward texts.
•Writing – write a range of texts to communicate information, ideas and opinions using formats and styles suitable for their purpose and audience.
Level 2
•Speaking, Listening and Communication – make a range of contributions to discussions in a range of contexts, including those that are unfamiliar, and make effective presentations.
•Reading – select, read, understand and compare texts and use them to gather information, ideas, arguments and opinions.
•Writing – write a range of texts, including extended written documents communication information, ideas and opinions, effectively and persuasively.

How to book Functional Skills Exams
1. Print the Exam Application form.
2. Enter your name, address, date of birth, telephone numbers and email address clearly then enter the details of the examinations you wish to take.
You do not have to fill in the section ‘Cash in Code’ for Functional Skills exams.
3. Attach a new passport sized photograph then photocopy either your driving licence or passport to be sent with the completed application form.
4. You must sign page 2 and 3 of the application form.
5. Application form can be scanned as a PDF file and emailed to info@englishandmaths.com or posted to via royal mail recorded service.
6. Payment can be made via our website from the Exam application form page for emailed applications forms or include a cheque/postal order for postal application.
Payment must be made at the time of emailing or posting the application form.
7. When we receive the Functional Skills Onscreen application form we will phone the candidate to arrange a suitable time and date to conduct the test.
Test can be requested on evenings and weekends.
Tests are currently being conducted on Wednesdays during the summer holidays and must be pre-booked before attending.
